Letters to Thomas Horry, 1807-1808.

Letter (1807 Nov. 16) from Elias Horry at Newport (R.I.) reports on the health, appearance, personality, and education of his sons William and Thomas and includes a copy of a letter from Elias Horry to Chisolm & Taylor in Charleston (S.C.) concerning his business and personal affairs. Letter (1808 Jan. 25) discusses the possibility of the embargo ending, its effect on commerce for the Southern states, and Horry's displeasure with the misconduct of a slave named Dick. Letter (1808 March 21) concerns the embargo, prospects of war with Great Britain, European politics, and financial and family matters. In the fourth letter (1808 March 28) from Newport (R.I.) Horry reports that his wife Harriet "was safely delivered of a daughter," and goes on to discuss business with Chisolm & Taylor, the price of rice, and the embargo.
